Venice Rockets

Samuel loves basketball.  He says he wants to be an NBA player.
His team, the Venice Rockets, won't win any championships, but they have definitely improved a ton over the course of the current 2 month tournament they are playing.  They are passing the ball, hustling on defense, going for rebounds, and have a renewed enthusiasm I haven't seen since Samuel joined the team in the spring.

His first free throw

His first field goal

We bought him some real basketball shoes after his first field goal, and he's turned into Dennis Rodman, getting over 10 rebounds in his last game.

Sick

Samuel got sick enough I actually brought him in to the be seen by one of my partners. He looked great, but felt horrible.  When I finally listened to his lungs, he was wheezing up a storm.

He really enjoyed getting his xrays done.

We had a great view of the hospital demolition project during lunch.  Even though he was sick, he said he really liked coming to work with me these past two days as Annette was out of town.

Hoop Dreams

Samuel has just started on a basketball team with his best friend--the Rockets.  He's had to relearn how to shoot the ball, and not to travel with the ball when he's about to shoot.  We also installed a new hoop in the backyard, but are just having a slight problem with the boys destroying all the plants with their ball.

Oo-la-la

I picked up the dress from alterations that Annette will be wearing to a ball in China and when Samuel saw it, he said, "oo-la-la!"

It's been a while since I've written about Samuel, so here's a snapshot.

His favorite game these days are Terrarium, an iPad game where the player can explore and do whatever he wants, sort of like Minecraft, I think.  And of course, there is minecraft.

Last year, he and Joshua were really into Pokemon, and they spent endless amount of time discussing Pokemon cards and battles.   And they are still very into their legos, especially Star Wars.

He likes to watch football games.  He has a basic understanding of the game, but really just enjoys the action of running, catching balls, tackling.  And the score.  We got a taste of football, first at Harvard, then in China, and here with college and the NFL.  He enjoyed watching Beastmode and seeing him play against the Patriots in the Superbowl earlier this year.

He still has his particular fashion sense, like wearing his socks way up high.  And he enjoys running.  He still expresses his love language of physical touch by snuggling up with me and Annette as much as he can.  He's not physical like that with his brother, which is interesting, the first time I've realized that.

He also enjoys cooking scrambled eggs, and eating them.  His favorite dish is rice mixed with seaweed and sesame oil, which he calls his special rice dish.  And his favorite restaurant is Koba.

Surf camp

We went to surf camp with Bob and Ryan.  And I love Samuel's beautiful smile in this pix.

Music camp

Annette took the boys to Legoland today and they fell asleep on the ride back.  When I went to get Sam, he was still asleep and I carried him to bed.  As I laid him down, he mumbled to me, "I got my violin," before falling back asleep. It's nice to see him so excited about learning to play the violin--he starts summer music camp next week.  He's borrowing his Uncle Dave's violin.

Samuel's best friend

We've been so blessed to meet the Ta family, our boys' best friends. Here is Samuel with Evan in kindergarten.
